More New Glarus Properties Are Moving Into Revocable Trusts
A New Glarus 360 analysis of real estate transfer records finds revocable trusts taking a growing share of local property transfers, especially in the Town of New Glarus, where 40% of 2026 transactions have gone to revocable trusts.
Quietly, one deed at a time, the way New Glarus property is held is changing.
A New Glarus 360 analysis of real estate transfer records found a sharp increase in properties being transferred into revocable trusts in recent years, particularly in the Town of New Glarus. The trend does not appear to represent trusts buying up local real estate. Instead, the records suggest many existing owners are retitling homes, farms and other property as part of estate and succession planning.
Among 806 transactions recorded in the Village and Town of New Glarus from Jan. 12, 2021, through Aug. 28, 2026, revocable trusts were listed as the recipient, or grantee, in 131 transactions.
The percentage has risen considerably. Revocable trusts were grantees in 10.4% of transactions in 2021 and 8.3% in 2022. That increased to 13.6% in 2023, 23.9% in 2024, 20.5% in 2025 and 24.7% so far in 2026.
The Town Stands Out
The change is much more pronounced outside the village limits.
In the Town of New Glarus, just four of 45 transactions in 2022, or 8.9%, went to revocable trusts. A year later, the share climbed to 23.8%.
