New Glarus School District Considers New Library Bus Stop
District officials are weighing a new school bus stop at the New Glarus Public Library for 2026-27, citing student safety near busy highways, sidewalk gaps and changing transportation needs as the library moves downtown.
The New Glarus School District's Facilities, Transportation and Technology Committee reviewed a proposal Monday evening to add the new New Glarus Public Library as an official school bus stop for the 2026-27 school year as part of the district's transportation planning efforts. The discussion took place during the committee's June 8 meeting at New Glarus High School.
District officials said the proposed addition would update the district's Unusually Hazardous Transportation (UHT) Plan to reflect the library's relocation to its new downtown facility. According to committee materials, students are already dropped off at the library's current location under the existing transportation plan.
Wisconsin law requires school districts to provide transportation for students living two miles or more from their school. Students living within two miles may also qualify for transportation if the School Board determines that their route to school presents unusually hazardous conditions.
