Ponies Rally Falls Short Against Evansville at Glarner Park

The Monticello-New Glarus Ponies jumped out quickly Monday evening at historic Glarner Park in downtown New Glarus, but Evansville answered late to hand the Ponies a 12-7 loss in a high-scoring nonconference softball game.

The Ponies opened the game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and appeared poised to protect their home field under pleasant spring conditions in the heart of downtown New Glarus. Evansville, however, chipped away before exploding for five runs in the sixth inning to take control.

Monticello-New Glarus finished with 14 hits in the contest, led by Rayna Vogel, who had a huge night at the plate. Vogel went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Heidi Olson added two hits and an RBI, while Mallory Miller collected two hits and scored twice. Mya Jordan also had two hits and scored two runs for the Ponies.
