The Swiss Center of North America in New Glarus has opened public access to its new online digital catalog, making thousands of objects, photographs, books and archival materials available to viewers around the world.
The searchable catalog, which launched Friday Feb. 20, provides free access to the museum’s collections and will continue to grow as staff add additional items in the coming years.
The Swiss Center of North America, located at 507 Durst Road in New Glarus, is a 5,000-square-foot facility dedicated to educating, preserving and celebrating the stories of the Swiss in North America. The center opened in 2008 and describes itself as the only museum in the world focused entirely on the Swiss experience in North America.
Its collection includes traditional clothing, folk art, furniture and photographs, along with the Donald G. Tritt Library and Archives. The archives house books and rare historical documents, including immigrant letters and family histories that document the journeys and lives of Swiss settlers across the continent.
