Test Scores, Enrollment and Budget Lead School Board Meeting

The New Glarus School Board spent much of Monday night reviewing strong academic results, steady overall enrollment, high student participation and the district’s developing 2026-27 budget, with final budget approval expected later this month.

Superintendent Jennifer Thayer said the state testing results released Oct. 1 showed New Glarus students performing 20% to 30% above the state average across every category and grade level reviewed by the district. She said grades 3 through 8 posted the highest Forward Exam scores in Green County in both English language arts and math.

At the high school level, the district also reported that New Glarus’ spring ACT composite score ranked sixth among Wisconsin public high schools. The board packet showed New Glarus near the top of its comparison group in ACT, PreACT and Forward Exam subjects, while elementary students ranked first in the comparison group in ELA, math and science.
