Village Board Approves Streetscape Bid, Roof Project
The New Glarus Village Board on Wednesday approved a downtown streetscape contract, a higher-cost public works roof project, police squad cameras, a food truck permit, seasonal hires and an alcohol ordinance change after discussion over bidding rules and timing.
The Village of New Glarus Board approved a full slate of agenda items Wednesday night, including a downtown streetscape contract, a public works shop roof replacement, new police squad cameras, a food truck permit and a change to the village’s alcohol ordinance. The meeting also included proclamations for National Linemen Appreciation Day and Arbor Day, along with routine consent items and committee appointments.
The most substantive discussion centered on the downtown streetscape project, where village officials weighed a committee preference for a local contractor against legal requirements tied to public bidding. According to the agenda package, the Village received five bids, with Concrete Creations of Wisconsin, an Appleton company, coming in at $98,000 and New Glarus Concrete at $105,000. Staff said the village attorney advised the lowest qualified bidder would have to be accepted.
