New Glarus village officials say they will stop spending taxpayer money on the records lawsuit, while maintaining their position that New Glarus Area EMS should have been subject to public records requirements.

The Village of New Glarus on Thursday announced it will no longer continue litigation aimed at forcing New Glarus Area EMS to turn over records requested under Wisconsin’s public records law. Village officials said the decision was based on the cost and uncertainty of continued legal action, not on any retreat from their broader position on transparency.

The release also makes clear the village still disagrees with Green County District Attorney Craig Nolen’s assessment that New Glarus Area EMS is not a public entity subject to the law. New Glarus 360 is publishing the village’s statement in full below:
