Why is Some Content Locked?
Learn why some New Glarus 360 stories are available to everyone while others are reserved for members, how subscriptions support independent local journalism, and where to find help accessing your account and the content you value.
Some New Glarus 360 stories are available to everyone, while others are reserved for members. This approach allows us to share important community information broadly while also generating the support needed to produce reliable local journalism.
Why some stories are free
New Glarus 360 makes many stories available without a paid subscription, particularly when the information affects public safety, transportation, elections, government meetings or other matters of broad public interest.
We want residents to have access to timely and useful information about the community, even if they are not currently paying members.
Why other stories are locked
Reporting takes time and resources. Attending meetings, reviewing public documents, interviewing sources, taking photographs, researching local history and publishing breaking news all require sustained work.
Some stories are reserved for members because subscription revenue helps pay for that work. These may include in-depth reporting, historical features, photo essays, exclusive interviews and other original content created specifically for New Glarus 360 readers.
Why reader support matters
New Glarus 360 is an independent local news organization. It is not supported by a large media company, and it does not have the financial resources of a regional newspaper or television station.
Memberships provide dependable revenue that helps cover reporting, photography, website expenses, email delivery, public-records requests, equipment and the many other costs involved in operating a local news platform.
Every paid subscription helps make it possible to continue covering New Glarus and the surrounding area.
What members receive
Paid members receive access to locked stories and other subscriber-only content. Depending on the membership level, subscribers may also receive additional benefits offered by New Glarus 360.
More importantly, members help ensure that local meetings are covered, community stories are preserved and residents continue to have access to reporting focused specifically on New Glarus.
Why not make everything free?
Advertising alone usually does not provide enough dependable revenue to support consistent local reporting. Making some content available only to members creates a more sustainable balance between public access and financial support.
Free stories allow important information to reach the broader community. Member-only stories help fund the reporting that makes all of New Glarus 360 possible.
How to unlock a story
To read locked content, select the subscription or membership option displayed on the story and follow the prompts to create an account or sign in.
