Sugar River found just enough offense and got plenty of help from its goalkeeper Monday night, holding off Wisconsin Dells for a 2-1 victory at The Bank of New Glarus Field in New Glarus.

Drew Brueggemann provided both goals for the Raiders, striking late in the first half and again midway through the second, while Taydon DeRouin finished with 11 saves to help Sugar River withstand a Wisconsin Dells push down the stretch.

The Raiders had to wait most of the opening half before finally breaking through. Brueggemann put Sugar River in front at the 38:33 mark, finishing a play set up by Arlo Belknap to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead just minutes before halftime.

That goal allowed Sugar River to take the advantage into the break, but the Raiders still had work to do against a Wisconsin Dells team that forced DeRouin to stay busy in goal.
