The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team continued to make early-season strides at an all-relay conference meet, finishing seventh among nine teams with 70 points and coming within eight points of sixth-place Fort Atkinson.

The Cheese Knights competed with just 11 swimmers, making them one of the smaller teams in the field. Fort Atkinson and Stoughton had similarly sized rosters, while the top three teams — Edgewood, McFarland and Lodi Co-op — each brought considerably more swimmers.

Those larger rosters allowed teams to fill both A and B relay positions and included numerous swimmers with club and additional competitive swimming experience.

For Monroe-New Glarus, the meet offered another measuring stick for a roster that includes several swimmers who are relatively new to competitive swimming. The Cheese Knights have already shown significant improvement compared with the same point last season and continued the progress they demonstrated at their previous meet in DeForest.
