Darlington Fires Former New Glarus Officer After OWI Arrest

DARLINGTON, Wis. — The City of Darlington has terminated Police Chief Szvon D. Conway's employment following a disciplinary hearing held Tuesday, less than three weeks after his arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated following a crash in Monroe.

Conway, who previously served as a police officer in New Glarus and later as police chief in Monticello, was dismissed effective immediately, according to a news release issued by Mayor David Roelli on behalf of the city.

The Special Police Committee met Tuesday to consider Conway's dismissal, demotion, licensing or discipline, as well as the investigation into the charges against him. Following the hearing, the committee voted to terminate Conway's employment. The city said the decision was made "after careful consideration by the Committee."
