Driver Killed in Highway 39 Crash West of New Glarus
A 67-year-old Blanchardville woman died Thursday after her vehicle left the roadway and overturned on Highway 39 west of New Glarus. The crash marks Green County's third traffic fatality of 2026.
A 67-year-old Blanchardville woman died Thursday afternoon following a one-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 39 in the Town of York, about five miles west of New Glarus.
The crash was reported shortly after 3:55 p.m. on State Highway 39 west of County Highway J. Deputies, along with the New Glarus Fire Department, New Glarus EMS, Monticello Fire Department and UW Med Flight, responded to the scene.
According to the Green County Sheriff's Office, the woman was driving westbound when she failed to negotiate a curve. Her vehicle left the roadway, entered the north ditch and struck a driveway embankment. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its passenger side facing east.
The driver was extricated from the vehicle by the New Glarus Fire Department. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a UW Med Flight physician.
