Firefighters Respond After Barn Burn Gets Away
New Glarus firefighters were called Monday to County Highway J after a controlled burn involving an old barn began spreading near other buildings.
New Glarus firefighters were called Monday, May 11, after a controlled burn involving an old barn began to get away from the person conducting the burn on County Highway J.
The call was dispatched around midday to the area of N7828 County Highway J, near the intersection with County Highway H, according to scanner traffic. The initial report described an old barn that was being burned and had started to spread beyond the caller’s control.
At the time of the call, winds in New Glarus were between 5 mph and 10 mph, conditions that can still affect an open burn depending on fuel, terrain and nearby structures.
