A Swiss painting held for years until New Glarus had “a proper place for it” has found its new home at the New Glarus Public Library this week.

Dr. Pauline Boss, a New Glarus native and Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota, delivered an original painting by Swiss artist Hans Gartmeier to the library this week on behalf of Charlotte “Lotte” Frey of Zurich. The gift honors Boss’ father, Paul Grossenbacher, whom Frey remembered with deep affection.

Frey, Boss’ first cousin, willed the painting to Boss with instructions to keep it until New Glarus had an appropriate place for it.
