The final score told only part of the story for New Glarus. The match changed quickly in the opening set when two Knights starters were injured, putting New Glarus in an immediate hole against a Waterloo team that took advantage and rolled to a 25-11 victory.
Instead of letting the rough opening set dictate the rest of the night, the Knights answered with their best stretch of volleyball in the second.
New Glarus stayed with Waterloo throughout the set, refused to let the Pirates pull away and eventually forced the set beyond the normal 25-point finish. The Knights had an opportunity to turn the momentum of the match, but Waterloo was able to claim the final two points for a narrow 26-24 win.
