New Glarus-Monticello Girls Shine at Wildcat Invitational

Sadie Mitchell won the girls race and New Glarus-Monticello placed five runners in the top 10 Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational in Belleville, while Dylan Gardner paced a solid boys varsity showing with a fourth-place finish overall.

BELLEVILLE, Wis. — The New Glarus-Monticello girls cross country team won the Wildcat Invitational in Belleville on Saturday, powered by an individual championship from freshman Sadie Mitchell and five runners finishing among the top 10.

Mitchell crossed the finish line first in the girls varsity 5,000-meter race in 21 minutes, 27.50 seconds, finishing more than 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Ashlyn Frazer of Madison Country Day. Holly Maynard added a fourth-place finish, Esther Biank was sixth, Lucy Sidwell eighth and Adayla Babler 10th.

The Glarner Knights did not have to wait long for more runners to follow.

Senior Holly Maynard placed fourth in 22:43.20, while Esther Biank finished sixth in 23:41.10 and Lucy Sidwell took eighth in 24:07.80. Adayla Babler rounded out a remarkable five New Glarus-Monticello runners among the top 10, placing 10th in 24:33.80.
