A Heat Advisory will be in effect across Green County from noon Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday as temperatures climb into the mid-90s and heat index values approach 102, with hot conditions expected to continue through much of the week.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Green County and much of southern Wisconsin from noon Tuesday, July 14, through 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.
Temperatures in the New Glarus area are expected to reach 96 degrees Tuesday and 95 degrees Wednesday. Combined with elevated humidity, heat index values could climb as high as 102 degrees.
The National Weather Service said hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat-related illnesses, particularly among older adults, young children, people with medical conditions and those working or exercising outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
Anyone who must spend time outdoors should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening hours.
Heat index values were already expected to range from 95 to 100 degrees Monday afternoon. High temperatures are forecast to remain in the 90s through Friday before gradually cooling during the weekend.
Tuesday is expected to be sunny and hot with a high near 96 and a light west wind. Tuesday night should be clear with a low near 70.
Wednesday will remain sunny and hot with a high near 95. The overnight low is expected to remain near 70.
Thursday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 93, followed by another warm night with a low near 71. Friday could reach 91 degrees, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 1 p.m.
Small chances for showers and thunderstorms continue into the weekend. Saturday is forecast to reach 89 degrees, while Sunday’s high is expected to be near 85.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion can include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache and cool or clammy skin. Heat stroke may cause confusion, loss of consciousness and extremely high body temperature and requires immediate emergency medical attention.
