A nearly 11-mile resurfacing project on Wisconsin 39 west of New Glarus is moving toward final design this year, with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation now anticipating construction in 2028 — or potentially a year earlier if funding becomes available.
The project stretches from County K in Hollandale east to York Center Road in the Town of York. WisDOT plans to resurface the highway and replace selected deteriorating culverts along the corridor, which connects New Glarus and western Green County with Hollandale and communities farther west.
Final plans are due in 2026, according to WisDOT’s current project schedule. Construction is officially anticipated for 2028, although the agency says the project is “advanceable to 2027 depending on funding.”
The latest schedule represents a significant delay from WisDOT’s original timeline. During a public involvement presentation in October 2021, the department expected final plans to be completed in 2024 and construction to begin in 2025.
