Historic Photo: Before Today’s Swiss Church
This early New Glarus image shows the 1858 stone Swiss Reformed Church and the old education building that stood before today’s Swiss Church and Zwingli House reshaped the hill.
This historic photo captures a familiar New Glarus hill before two of its best-known buildings took their present form.
On the right is the stone Swiss Reformed Church, built in 1858 as the second church building for the congregation. It replaced the earlier log church used by New Glarus settlers and stood on the site before the current brick Swiss Church was built in 1900 and dedicated in 1901.
