Hotel Project Draws Regional Attention
In Business Madison recently took a closer look at the restoration of the historic New Glarus Hotel, highlighting the local investors behind the project, its Swiss roots and the role the landmark could play in the village’s growing tourism economy.
New Glarus is once again attracting attention beyond Green County, this time with a feature in In Business Madison examining the ambitious restoration of the historic New Glarus Hotel and Restaurant.
The Sept. 1 story by Louis Livingston-Garcia, titled “More Than Spotted Cow,” focuses on the group working to bring the 173-year-old landmark back to life. The New Glarus Hotel Group purchased the property in February 2024 and is backed by 25 investors, a majority of them local residents. The renovated hotel and its Yodel Room are currently scheduled to open in November.
Rather than looking only at the construction project, In Business places the hotel within a larger story about investment in New Glarus and the village’s continued growth as a tourism destination. The article also points to Canter Inn and other recent development while emphasizing efforts to retain the community’s Swiss character.
