SPRING GREEN, Wis. — New Glarus-Monticello put two runners in the top 26 and finished 10th in a crowded 19-team large-school girls field Saturday at the River Valley Blackhawk Invitational at Spring Green Golf Course. The team finished with 263 points, according to official Athletic.net results.
Freshman Sadie Mitchell led the charge, placing 24th in the 5,000-meter race in 21 minutes, 18.8 seconds. Senior Holly Maynard was right behind her in 26th at 21:25.5, giving New Glarus-Monticello a pair of finishers separated by just 6.7 seconds.
The final team standings show just how close the middle of the field was. New Glarus-Monticello finished only one point behind ninth-place Lancaster and two points ahead of 11th-place Dodgeville/Mineral Point. Sophomore Lucy Sidwell added a 64th-place finish in 23:06.6, senior Mirielle Smith was 69th in 23:23.2 and freshman Adayla Babler completed the scoring five in 85th at 23:46.0.
