New Glarus Declares 212 2nd St. Property Uninhabitable
Following an inspection that documented structural, sanitation and safety concerns, the New Glarus Village Board voted 7-0 to declare 212 2nd St. a public nuisance and uninhabitable and directed its attorney to take further action.
The New Glarus Village Board has declared a residential property at 212 2nd St. a public nuisance and uninhabitable following a village-ordered inspection that documented numerous health, safety, sanitation and structural concerns.
The June 25 inspection was performed by Total Inspection Services LLC, the Village of New Glarus’ contracted building inspector. According to the report, the inspection was intended to evaluate the condition of the property and determine whether corrective action was warranted, including the possibility of condemnation if repairs are not made.
The report described what it called “significant health, safety, sanitation, and structural concerns.” Among the conditions documented were sewer contamination, deteriorated structural components, water intrusion, possible mold growth, compromised flooring, inadequate exits, nonfunctioning smoke detection and unsafe plumbing and mechanical installations.
