A Summer Tradition Returns: New Glarus Farmers Market

For nearly a decade, Danielle Beggs-Zimmerman has spent her Friday afternoons helping connect local farmers, food producers and artisans with shoppers in New Glarus.

Now in her ninth year managing the New Glarus Farmers Market, Beggs-Zimmerman says the market has become much more than a place to buy vegetables. It has evolved into a weekly gathering spot where residents can meet the people who grow their food, support small businesses and connect with neighbors.

Held Fridays from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Hometown Pharmacy at 1101 Highway 69, the market runs through Oct. 9 and features a rotating mix of vendors from New Glarus and surrounding communities.

While the market itself dates back to 2013, Beggs-Zimmerman helped reboot the effort in 2018 after it had been dormant for a season. Since then, the market has operated on Fridays, a deliberate decision aimed at avoiding conflicts with larger Saturday markets in Madison, Monroe and elsewhere.
