New Glarus Net New Construction Rate Jumps to 3.06%

State figures show the Village of New Glarus added $10.24 million in net new construction, producing a 3.06% rate that leads Green County’s cities and villages, nearly doubles Wisconsin’s statewide rate and could climb again in 2027.

New Glarus Net New Construction Rate Jumps to 3.06%

The Village of New Glarus recorded $10.24 million in net new construction in Wisconsin’s final 2026 report, producing a 3.06% rate that led every city and village in Green County and ranked third among all 24 municipalities in the county.

That 3.06% does not mean residents’ property tax bills will automatically increase by 3.06%. It measures the taxable value added through new construction and land improvements, minus demolished or removed improvements, relative to the village’s existing tax base.

The highest net new construction level seen in the Village in recent years was in 2018 at 2.3% It has declined steadily since then due to the lack of growth.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s 2018 report placed the village at 2.39%. More recently, New Glarus recorded rates of 1.72% in 2021, 0.63% in 2022, 1.01% in 2023 and 1.78% in 2024 before slipping slightly below zero in 2025.
