New Glarus made its first appearance as a No. 1 seed in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association football playoffs Friday night, defeating No. 8 Bloomer 48-8 in the Division 5 opener at The Bank of New Glarus Field. The Glarner Knights advance to Level 2 against No. 4 Chilton on Friday, Oct. 30.
The victory improved New Glarus to 9-1 and extended its winning streak to six games. Chilton reached the second round with a 34-27 overtime victory over Peshtigo, setting up another home playoff game for the Knights.

The Redbirds (10-0) will face No. 5 Winnebago Lutheran, which defeated New Holstein 26-13.
In Division 6, Cuba City defeated fellow SWAL member Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg 27-9. The Cubans advance to face No. 2 Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic, while Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg saw its season end. Another conference team, Mineral Point, was eliminated in a narrow 26-24 loss to Potosi/Cassville.
