The New Glarus Village Board will take up several significant issues Wednesday, Sept. 2, including a controversial blasting permit, a new electricity rate designed to encourage overnight EV charging and the possible redevelopment of village-owned land next to the Swiss Historical Village.

The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 319 Second St. The agenda also includes approval of the New Glarus Wine Walk, a Boos and Brews Pub Crawl, an additional accessible parking stall at Village Hall and the village’s annual tax collection agreement with Green County.

One of the most closely watched items will be the Prairie Haus II blasting permit for 1003 Elmer Road. The Village Board tabled the application Aug. 19 after several residents raised concerns about potential property damage and presented a petition signed by six residents asking the village to consider additional protections. Representatives of Olson Explosives Inc. and Iconica, the Prairie Haus contractor, are expected to attend Wednesday’s meeting.
