New Glarus Yodelers Head to Switzerland for National Festival
Approximately fourteen members of the New Glarus Jodlerklub are expected to travel to Basel later this month to participate in Switzerland's premier yodeling festival, an event that draws performers from around the world and is held only once every three years.
The New Glarus Jodlerklub is preparing for a return trip to Switzerland later this month as members travel to Basel to participate in the 32nd Eidgenössisches Jodlerfest, Switzerland's national yodeling festival.
Held every three years, the event is considered one of the most important gatherings of traditional Swiss music and culture in the world. Along with yodeling, the festival includes alphorn competitions, flag throwing demonstrations and performances by groups from across Switzerland and around the world.
Fourteen members of the New Glarus Jodlerklub and 18 additional travelers are expected to gather in Basel later this month for Switzerland's premier yodeling festival. The delegation of 32 includes singers and supporters, known as 'Bummlers,' from New Glarus as well as Monroe, Mount Horeb, Madison and other communities.
For many in New Glarus, the trip represents a rare opportunity to perform on one of the biggest stages in Swiss folk music.
