One month after ATV and UTV access became legal on Town of New Glarus roads, local law enforcement officials say the transition has been relatively smooth, but a small number of incidents have been reported.
The ordinance, which officially took effect in May following months of debate and public discussion, opened most town roads to ATV and UTV traffic and made the Town of New Glarus the final town in Green County to authorize road use for the vehicles. The measure was approved after residents voted 116-90 in favor of ATV and UTV access and the Town Board subsequently approved the ordinance in a 3-2 vote.
While concerns about safety, noise and enforcement dominated much of the discussion leading up to the vote, the first month has produced relatively few problems. Still, there has been some.
