The Sugar River Raiders girls soccer team is one win away from the WIAA State Tournament after defeating Delavan-Darien 1-0 Friday night in a sectional semifinal at the Glarner Community Complex in New Glarus.

Toria Devoe scored early in the second half, and the second-seeded Raiders made the lead stand up the rest of the way in a 1-0 victory over third-seeded Delavan-Darien in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal at the New Glarus Glarner Community Complex.

The postseason matchup had originally been scheduled for June 11 but was postponed due to severe weather earlier in the week.

After a scoreless first half, Devoe broke through at the 40:35 mark of the match to give Sugar River its first and only goal. The Raiders then relied on a strong defensive effort and timely saves from goalkeeper Minter to preserve the shutout.

Savanah Minter finished with five saves for Sugar River, while Delavan-Darien goalkeeper Mia Wolfer recorded six saves to keep the Comets within striking distance throughout the evening.

The win sends the Raiders to Saturday night's sectional final against McFarland, which defeated Platteville 2-0 on Thursday night. The sectional final will be played at McFarland, a site that was predetermined before the tournament began, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at McFarland High School Stadium. The Sugar River Raiders are a #2 seed and McFarland is a #1 seed. 14-0-4 Overall, 5-0-2 in the Badger (Small) Conference. Sugar River finished the season with a 16-5-1 record overall, including a 6-1 mark in the Capitol Conference.

The winner of Saturday night's match will advance to the WIAA State Tournament.
