Sugar River Blanks Lakeside Lutheran to Capture Regional Title
Behind 16 saves from its defense and goalkeeper and four second-half goals, Sugar River earned a WIAA Division 3 regional championship in New Glarus and advanced to Thursday's sectional semifinal.
The Sugar River Raiders girls soccer team is moving on.
Playing on a hot and humid night at the New Glarus Glarner Community Complex, No. 2 seed Sugar River defeated No. 7 Lakeside Lutheran 4-0 in the WIAA Division 3 Regional Final to claim a regional championship and advance to the sectional round.
Sugar River broke through late in the first half and then pulled away with three goals after intermission, while goalkeeper Savanah Minter and the Raiders' defense turned away a steady Lakeside Lutheran attack.
The victory sends Sugar River into Thursday night's sectional semifinal, where the Raiders will face Delavan-Darien at 7 p.m.
