Sugar River Presses Monroe but Settles for 1-1 Draw
Sugar River controlled much of Thursday’s match against Monroe, piling up 27 shots on goal and eight corner kicks, but a pair of second-half penalty kicks left the Raiders with a 1-1 draw in New Glarus before a Tuesday trip to McFarland.
Sugar River had no shortage of opportunities Thursday night in New Glarus, but despite putting 27 shots on goal, the Raiders had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Monroe.
The teams played through a scoreless first half before Drew Brueggemann finally broke through for Sugar River at the 45:58 mark. Brueggemann converted a penalty kick to give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.
The lead lasted less than four minutes. Monroe was awarded a penalty kick of its own at 49:38 and converted it to pull even at 1-1.
Sugar River continued creating chances but could not find the deciding goal. The Raiders were credited with 27 shots on goal compared with 10 for Monroe, along with eight corner kicks and 13 direct or indirect kicks.
