The Sugar River Raiders responded to their latest setback in convincing fashion Thursday, overwhelming previously unbeaten Columbus 6-0 for their first conference victory of the season.
Two days after falling 5-1 at McFarland, the Raiders looked like a different team from the opening minutes. Sugar River built a commanding five-goal lead before halftime and finished with six different scoring combinations in a performance that featured contributions throughout the lineup.
Drew Brueggemann started the scoring at 15:50, finishing a chance set up by Adam Johnson to give Sugar River a 1-0 advantage. Less than seven minutes later, Brueggemann turned provider, assisting Liam Crawford for a goal at 22:22.
The Raiders kept coming. Arlo Belknap made it 3-0 at the 28-minute mark off another Brueggemann assist. Kaleb Weber added the fourth goal at 42:58, again with Brueggemann supplying the assist.
