Sugar River Splits Opening Week of Soccer Season
Sugar River erupted for six goals in its Aug. 25 season opener at Dodge-Point before returning to Belleville two nights later, where Mount Horeb handed the Raiders a 1-0 loss despite Sugar River generating more offensive chances.
BELLEVILLE, Wis. — The Sugar River Raiders opened the boys soccer season with two very different matches.
Sugar River rolled to a 6-0 road victory over Dodge-Point on Tuesday, Aug. 25, getting three goals from senior Drew Brueggemann and two more from sophomore Kaleb Weber.
Two nights later, the Raiders returned home for Alumni Night in Belleville and battled Mount Horeb, but a first-half goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Sugar River loss.
The two matches offered an early look at a Sugar River team attempting to reload after graduating much of the defense from last year’s 14-3-1 team while pursuing a ninth consecutive Capitol Conference championship.
