Town of York to Review New Glarus, Sugar River EMS
Town of York officials will meet with New Glarus Area EMS Thursday before touring Sugar River EMS, as the township weighs emergency medical service options after regional changes reshaped ambulance coverage across the New Glarus area.
The Town of York will take a closer look at two emergency medical service providers Thursday night, beginning with a discussion at New Glarus Area EMS before town officials tour the newer Sugar River EMS operation.
According to a notice posted by the town Wednesday, the discussion with New Glarus Area EMS will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at the EMS station, 401 Third St. A quorum of the Town Board may be present, but the notice specifically states that no decisions will be made.
The board will then tour Sugar River EMS immediately following the New Glarus discussion. Again, the town said no decisions will be made during the tour.
The review comes less than a year after a major reshuffling of ambulance coverage around New Glarus. The Village and Town of New Glarus ended their longtime contracts with New Glarus Area EMS at the end of 2025 and began receiving 911 service from Belleville Area EMS, a move that was described at the time as the first step toward creating a regional district.
