Hunters across Wisconsin, including those in Green County, can begin the 2026 archery and crossbow deer seasons Saturday, Sept. 12, with the statewide season running through Jan. 3, 2027.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the seasons will continue through Jan. 31, 2027, in select metropolitan subunits and select Farmland Zone counties. Hunters should check the state’s 2026 Deer Season Structure map to determine the season dates that apply where they hunt.
Safety is among the DNR’s main reminders as hunters head into the woods. Hunters using tree stands are encouraged to always wear a safety harness, use a haul line to raise and lower equipment and maintain three points of contact while climbing into and out of a stand.
The DNR is also reminding hunters that changes were made to several Deer Management Units in 2025. Hunters need to know their management zone and DMU number or county when purchasing licenses and harvest authorizations and when registering a harvested deer.
