BELLEVILLE, Wis. — Law enforcement responded to Belleville High School Tuesday Sept. 15 at approximately 10:54 a.m. after receiving a report of a person wearing what appeared to be a tactical vest and carrying a firearm near the school, prompting a lockdown and a sizable emergency response.
The person was located and detained. After investigating, officers determined there was no firearm. The individual was wearing a weighted exercise vest and carrying a large black umbrella.
Emergency radio traffic shows the incident initially generated a significant response from law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services. Sugar River Rescue was dispatched to the high school, and responders established a staging area away from the school while officers investigated.
