UPDATE: Measles Outbreak Grows, Green County Still in the Clear

UPDATE: Measles Outbreak Grows, Green County Still in the Clear

Wisconsin’s measles outbreak continues to grow, with state health officials reporting 238 confirmed and six probable cases in the southwestern Wisconsin outbreak as of Oct. 9.

Green County, however, still has no reported measles cases.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says the outbreak remains concentrated in Grant, Iowa, Lafayette and Vernon counties, where investigators continue to find evidence of local spread. Lafayette County directly borders Green County to the west. Statewide, Wisconsin has now confirmed 263 measles cases in 2026.

The latest numbers represent a continued increase from Sept. 25, when the southwest outbreak stood at 180 confirmed and six probable cases. That means 58 additional confirmed cases have been added to the four-county outbreak in two weeks.

Green County nevertheless remains part of the state’s measles monitoring picture because the virus was detected in a Monroe wastewater sample collected Sept. 16.
