Downtown Streetscape Project Expands as Work Continues
Additional sidewalk terraces, curb improvements and accessibility upgrades will now be included in the downtown New Glarus streetscape project, with construction expected to wrap up before July 4.
A downtown streetscape project now underway in New Glarus is expected to include more improvements than originally planned after village officials determined project conditions and costs would allow additional work to be completed.
Public Works Director Scott McNett said crews have already begun construction and are now moving forward with several areas that had previously been considered uncertain because of budget concerns.
In addition to the original work along First Street and Fifth Avenue, the project will now include replacement of terrace areas on Fifth Avenue between First Street and Railroad Street, as well as Sixth Avenue between First and Second streets.
The expanded project will also include replacement of some curb and gutter sections and upgrades to handicap-accessible ramps along First Street.
