Heavy Rain Could Disrupt New Glarus Homecoming Week

New Glarus is facing a soggy middle of the week, with showers and thunderstorms expected to move in late Tuesday night and continue through much of Wednesday and Thursday — a stretch of weather already prompting changes to local events.

The New Glarus School District moved its Wednesday scheduled Powder Puff football game to last evening and Fall Fest planned for Library Park in Belleville has also been moved to Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Organizers of both events cited the impending rain forecast in announcing the changes.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for a 40% chance of showers Tuesday night, with thunderstorms possible after 4 a.m. Wednesday. Rain becomes much more likely Wednesday, when the chance of precipitation climbs to 90% and a quarter- to a half-inch of rain is possible during the day.

Rain is expected to continue Wednesday night, with another half- to three-quarters of an inch possible, followed by more showers and possible thunderstorms Thursday. The Thursday forecast carries a 70% chance of rain and another half- to three-quarters of an inch possible. Taken together, the forecast rainfall ranges from Wednesday through Thursday total roughly 1.25 to 2 inches.
