Heavy Rain Soaks New Glarus and Southern Wisconsin
Storms crossing southern Wisconsin from July 31 into Aug. 1 delivered more than 2 inches of rain in New Glarus, with several nearby communities topping 3 or even 4 inches before a quieter and warmer stretch arrives later this week.
A round of heavy rain that moved through southern Wisconsin from Friday, July 31, into Saturday, Aug. 1, dropped 2.17 inches in New Glarus and produced even higher totals in several surrounding communities.
The heaviest amounts were reported east and southeast of New Glarus. Evansville received 4.32 inches, while Janesville recorded 4.15 inches. Belleville was among the other communities receiving more than 3 inches.
Rainfall totals varied considerably across the region. While several locations received between 2 and 3 inches, Rockford recorded the lowest total included in the regional report at 1.48 inches.
The widespread rainfall provided a substantial soaking for lawns, gardens and farm fields, but the highest totals may also have produced ponding and standing water in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
