Update: Highway 69 Crews Move to Concrete, Culverts and Bridge Work

With the Highway 69 detour now expected to remain in place through Aug. 30, the latest weekly update focuses on what comes next: roundabout pavement, bridge deck work, culvert replacement near Exeter Crossing Road and continued restrictions near County F.

Update: Highway 69 Crews Move to Concrete, Culverts and Bridge Work

Highway 69 remains closed to through traffic between Monroe and New Glarus, but this week’s update is less about a new traffic pattern and more about the construction work now moving forward behind the closure.

The biggest news this week, which New Glarus 360 reported Friday, was the addition of a new four-way stop at Highway 81 and County Highway N, which is expected to be completed Thursday. Green County Highway Commissioner Chris Narveson said the temporary traffic controls are being added in response to increased traffic and safety concerns during the Highway 69 detour. The four-way stop will remain until 2030 when a new roundabout is planned for the intersection.

Highway 69 has been closed to through traffic since July 13. The posted detour uses Highway 11 at Monroe, Highway 81 to Argyle, Highway 78 to Blanchardville and Highway 39 to New Glarus. Local access only remains in place on Highway 69, and project officials continue to ask drivers to use alternate routes other than Highway 69 for the safety of workers. Other drivers are using County N.
