MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported that measles virus was detected in a Green County wastewater sample collected Sept. 16, as the agency’s Sept. 25 update put the 2026 statewide total at 192 confirmed cases.
DHS has not listed Green County among the counties with confirmed or probable resident measles cases. The wastewater finding indicates that at least one infected person was present in the area served by the sampling site around the time the sample was collected. It does not confirm that a Green County resident has measles, and DHS has not identified where in the county the Sept. 16 sample was collected.
The southwest Wisconsin outbreak remains assigned to Grant, Iowa, Lafayette and Vernon counties, where DHS counted 180 confirmed and six probable cases as of Sept. 25. DHS also listed three confirmed cases in Marathon County and one in Chippewa County, all tied to out-of-state travel and not linked to the southwest outbreak.
