New Glarus Board Advances Housing, Village Hall Plans

The New Glarus Village Board spent Wednesday night moving several major projects toward their next stages, including a Village Hall renovation, a multifamily housing solicitation for Village-owned land near the Swiss Historical Village and a 2027 capital plan that adds several infrastructure projects.

The Village Hall renovation received one of the night’s longest presentations. Strand Associates architect Laura Brusberg walked trustees through a final floor plan that moves the boardroom into the former library, adds public transaction windows, creates more secure staff areas and includes a huddle room that can also serve as a second police interrogation room. The plan also adds a staff break room and reorganizes information technology space.

Staff expects the renovation to go out for bid in October, with bids due Nov. 5. Construction is expected to begin after the April 2027 election, with the goal of completing the work by the end of 2027. The capital improvement plan carries a $1 million estimate for the renovation.
