New Glarus Board Approves Valle Tell Park Accessibility Improvements
New accessible parking spaces, crosswalk upgrades and additional lighting are planned for Valle Tell Park as village officials work to improve access and safety near the popular soccer fields.
The New Glarus Village Board approved several routine items Wednesday night while also advancing plans for accessibility and pedestrian safety improvements at Valle Tell Park.
Among the meeting's most notable actions was approval of accessible parking spaces at the park, which village staff said will provide closer access to the soccer fields and better accommodate visitors with mobility needs.
Village Administrator Kelsey Jenson told board members that staff evaluated the site and determined two accessible parking spaces could be added near the soccer fields. The project is intended to improve access for spectators and participants while making use of existing infrastructure near the park's accessible ramp.
In addition to the parking improvements, village staff announced several related upgrades that do not require board approval. Those include new crosswalk markings, pedestrian crossing signs, additional street lighting and changes to parking restrictions intended to create additional parking opportunities near the park.
