New Glarus CDA Agenda Adds 538 1st St. Façade Request
The building at 538 1st St., immediately south of New Glarus Bakery, is the subject of a new façade improvement grant application before the New Glarus Community Development Authority. The proposal calls for replacing second-floor windows and completing masonry tuckpointing on the side and rear of the historic downtown building.

The New Glarus Community Development Authority will consider two downtown façade improvement grant applications Thursday night after the Village amended its Oct. 1 agenda and added a second application for 538 1st St., the building immediately south of New Glarus Bakery.

The street-level retail space is occupied by A Well Worn Story. The grant applicant is 1st Street Holdings LLC, with Elizabeth Klopotic listed as the contact for the property.

The application describes a $39,740 project that would replace six second-floor windows on the side and rear of the building and complete tuckpointing on exterior brickwork. The contractor estimate also includes repair of stone on the front of the building. The applicant is requesting $6,000, or the maximum amount allowed under the Village façade program, with $33,740 listed as private funding.

Kellesvig Custom Builders of Blue Mounds is identified as the contractor. The application proposes beginning work Dec. 1 and completing it by April 15, 2027. The new windows would be Andersen 100 double-hung units, with exterior trim wrapped and painted to coordinate with the building.
