BRODHEAD, Wis. — The New Glarus Glarner Knights put together their strongest full day of volleyball this season Saturday, going unbeaten through five matches at the Brodhead Volleyball Invite and winning 10 of the 12 sets they played.
The Glarner girls wasted little time establishing control. New Glarus opened with a 25-13, 25-11 sweep of Monroe, followed it with a 25-13, 25-19 victory over Turner and then dispatched Albany 25-15, 25-17. Through their first six sets, the Knights never allowed an opponent to reach 20 points.
The competition tightened against the Evansville Blue Devils. New Glarus dropped its first set of the tournament 26-24 but answered with a 25-21 victory in the second before taking the deciding set 15-11. It was the first real test of the day, and the Glarner Knights responded rather than allowing the opening-set loss to change the direction of the match.
Host Brodhead gave New Glarus another challenge in the final match. The Cardinals took the first set 25-15, but the Knights answered emphatically, winning the second 25-13 before closing the match with a 15-9 victory in the third.
