New Glarus Tops Belleville in Highway 69 Volleyball Rivalry

BELLEVILLE, Wis., — The Highway 69 rivalry filled the gym Thursday night, and New Glarus answered the atmosphere with another strong performance, beating Belleville in four sets, 25-14, 25-15, 27-29, 25-23. The win moved the Glarner Knights to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

New Glarus came roaring through the opening two sets, taking control early with 25-14 and 25-15 wins. Coach Kayla Ingwell said the pace changed in the third, when the Glarner girls came out a little slower and more hesitant.

The Glarner Knights worked their way back into the set and pulled even midway through before a back-and-forth finish stretched into extra points. Belleville finally took the third set 29-27.

New Glarus responded in the fourth rather than letting the missed opportunity linger. The Knights closed out the rivalry match with a 25-23 win to finish the night in four sets.
