New Glarus Picked Fourth in First SWAL Season

The New Glarus football team will enter a new conference this fall carrying both the momentum of a historic season and the challenge of replacing many of the players who made it possible.

In his 2026 Southwest Wisconsin Activities League (SWAL) football preview, Bound Wisconsin Manager Travis Wilson predicted the Glarner Knights will finish fourth in their first season in the SWAL. Wilson placed defending state champion Darlington first, followed by Fennimore and Cuba City.

New Glarus moves to the seven-team SWAL after competing in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference last season. Belleville has left the SWAL for the Eastern Wisconsin Conference, while Abundant Life has moved to eight-player football. Each SWAL team will also play one crossover game against an SWC opponent.
