New Glarus Property Tax Growth Trails Statewide Jump

Property tax levies surged across Wisconsin, but the statewide headline does not tell the whole story in New Glarus. A closer look at state data shows a much smaller local increase, with different parts of the tax bill moving in different directions.

New Glarus Property Tax Growth Trails Statewide Jump

Property tax levies across Wisconsin rose 5.8% on December 2025 tax bills, the largest increase in nearly two decades, but property in the Village of New Glarus saw a much smaller increase, according to Wisconsin Department of Revenue data.

Statewide total general property taxes increased from about $13.64 billion in 2024 to $14.43 billion in 2025, a 5.8% increase. Green County came close to that pace, with total property taxes rising from about $88.1 million to $93.1 million, an increase of 5.6%.

In the Village of New Glarus, however, total property taxes rose from about $6.52 million to $6.63 million, an increase of just 1.8%. The village's full property value increased from about $318.1 million to $334.7 million over the same period, or 5.2%.

Those figures describe all general property taxes imposed on property within the village, not simply the Village of New Glarus government's own levy. DOR's total includes county, municipal, school, technical college and certain other taxes.
