The New Glarus Village Board will consider extending the village’s long-term electricity supply agreement through 2073 when it meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Village Hall.

The proposed amendment with Wisconsin Public Power Inc., commonly known as WPPI Energy, would extend the current agreement by 18 years. The village’s existing contract expires Dec. 31, 2055, while the proposed agreement would remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2073.

According to the meeting packet, WPPI is seeking the longer commitment from its participating municipal utilities to help secure financing for new long-term power sources. WPPI President and CEO Mike Peters is scheduled to present the proposal to the board. Village Attorney Bill Morgan reviewed the amendment and recommended approval.

The contract amendment is one of four items listed under new business. The remaining three would update portions of the New Glarus municipal code to address newer types of personal transportation, electronic smoking devices and unregistered vehicles parked on village property.
